Iñigo Manglano-Ovalle

Iceberg is a sculptural installation by Iñigo Manglano-Ovalle, an artist whose practice examines subjects ranging from climate and scientific research to migration, identity, and social structures. Often combining complex technical processes with refined sculptural forms, his work explores the relationships between natural phenomena, technology, and contemporary society.

Created for King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST) in Saudi Arabia, Iceberg brings an unexpected fragment of the Arctic into a desert and maritime environment. The suspended form creates a deliberate contrast with its surroundings, using the iceberg as a metaphor for the movement of information and ideas between places.

The work reflects on how knowledge can travel even when its physical subject cannot. While an actual iceberg could not exist within this setting, scientific and technological understanding allows its form and meaning to be transported across geographical boundaries. In doing so, Iceberg connects nature, culture, and science while encouraging reflection on climate and the ways we understand distant environments.

Our team supported the fabrication and delivery of the installation, translating Manglano-Ovalle’s concept into a technically complex sculptural work that creates a powerful dialogue with its setting.
